Turning an overwhelming workload into a more manageable business
Dan Smith is the Director of Noisekillers Limited. As the business became busier, Dan found himself trying to manage an increasing workload while still finding the time to step back and think about what the business needed next.
Time management had become a major challenge, and with more demands competing for his attention, Dan was beginning to feel stressed and overwhelmed. He was also considering whether employing additional staff was the right next step, but wanted to understand his options before making that commitment.

“I feel clearer and more confident that I can manage the business more confidently than before.”
Through the Cumbria Accelerator programme, Dan worked with advisor Lateef Badat to understand where his time was going, identify the biggest pressures on the business and explore practical ways to make the workload more manageable.
Working with Lateef gave Dan the opportunity to step away from the day-to-day pressures and look more closely at how the business was operating.
Together, they broke down the areas taking up the most time and explored where processes could be simplified or managed differently. Rather than assuming that recruiting another member of staff was the answer, they looked at how Dan could make better use of contractors, digital tools and the resources already available to him.
This gave Dan a clearer understanding of where changes could be made without immediately increasing the size of the team.
“Lateef is relaxed, calm and knowledgeable and is a trustworthy individual who I feel confident in explaining and discussing my struggles in business.”
The support gave Dan the space to talk openly about the challenges he was facing and work through practical changes that could make an immediate difference.
Since receiving support, Dan has introduced a more planned and structured approach to his working day, giving him greater control over where his time is spent.
“A more planned and structured working day that isn’t just go, go, go.”
One of the most important outcomes has been recognising that employing additional staff is not necessarily the right next step for the business. By improving how his own time is managed and making better use of contractors and digital tools, Dan has identified other ways to manage demand and improve efficiency.
He now has a clearer view of how the business can move forward and greater confidence in making decisions about future growth.
What had felt like an overwhelming workload has become much more manageable, giving Dan a stronger structure for his working day and a clearer foundation for the decisions ahead.
